I love Anderson's vocals on this one! And the jazzy piano solo from Kaye is also very noteworthy. And now "You'll see perpetual change".

Beatles-esqe, almost like a Maxwells Silver Hammer or OBlaDi sort of take. Out of character for Yes. But still cool.

There are not any bad tunes on this album, some are just better than others.

I have the same take on Bruford....He plays sweet segments in mixed meters (I think that's the term..need drummers' help) while hanging on the groove...This one is just ok for me.

As their shorter, throwaway-style songs go, it's a really nice one. Pleasant and fun. Edit to add that there is a King Crimson song called Trio on the album Starless and Bible Black where Bruford is given a song-writing credit but he does not play on the song. Apparently it was a little in-studio jam/improv that the other three started playing (bass, guitar, and violin), and Bruford sat there on his kit with his sticks ready looking for the right percussion to fill in the jam, and ultimately just put his sticks down and listened to the other three. Robert Fripp says he gave him a song-writing credit for "Admirable restriction". Bruford is a really good rabbit-hole to go down someday.

YES! 😊 The addition of Steve Howe was huge for this band in the '70s!! I don't think he gets the credit he deserves.

I have nothing substantive to add, but I like saying that...

My favorite version of this song was from the video for 9012Live. Not so much for how Trevor Rabin played the guitar parts, but because of the piano work from Tony Kaye in the second half. No solo, but he really goes to work jamming on the keyboard. It may be the only Yes song (to me) where Rick Wakeman wasn't able to play the keyboard parts as well as Kaye.

Brian May on a live version of this is simply off the scale

Rick Moranis Dave Thomas and Harold Ramis all were on SCTV along with John Candy and Joe Flaherty that is just the men not the women who were equally as funny as the men cast members

Take my favorite rock n roll trio and put my favorite Canadian comedy duo and you get one of the hardest to get physical copy songs I ever got ps it might have completed my RUSH collection on vinyl but I still want more of this SCTV stuff and more Neil Peart Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson

I really like the song, but I'm not keen on the outro section that everyone gushes over. whereas the previous passages were light, and adventerous - it doesn't sound pleasant to me, and just drones on for 4 minutes!!! Besides, it was a Steve Howe piece that he took from his previous band Bodus.

Great reaction, Justin. For your own enjoyment, try the Keys of Ascension version of Starship Trooper. It's live and the Wurm section features Rick Wakeman and Steve Howe alternating solos. To me, it adds a whole new dimension.

I remember as a youth hearing this track quite a bit on the local classic rock station and was always excited to hear it. Definitely stood out to me among some other really good music.

back in the mid 70s during high school I had a buddy was a great guitar player even then, and I had him listen to this tune, and he never would believe that it was a single guitar player. It sounds complicated, but I learned it over 20 years ago, on a Martin 0018 Steve how signature no less! Most of it is chord shapes, using Travis picking, often slightly palm muting the bass strings. As you can imagine, this went down *really well* when Yes toured the states the first time. The only problem was Tony Kaye wanted to keep going in this direction, which wasn't exactly how the rest of the group wanted to proceed. But I'm not sure there's been a Yes concert to this day that hasn't included this song. Of everything on the album it was probably the biggest radio "hit".

With Yes the first listen is great and on additional listens it just keeps getting better. I’ve never listened to a Yes album (any Yes album, even the ‘bad’ ones) and not feel elevated in mood. Yes puts a smile on my face. When you said that this is prog foundation, it truly was for me. I heard this coming out of my older brothers bedroom before I realized who or what it was. So when I started listening to music on my own I leaned toward proggy stuff. Then when I rediscovered the songs and albums that he was playing it was a revelation to me as by that point I owned 90125 and Topic Oceans but didn’t still didn’t understand for a while that it was the same band he was blasting.

I was convinced there was two people playing , until I saw him do it live

I discovered Yes via Roundabout. After exploring Fragile and Close to the Edge I heard about The Yes Album. So I guess it's natural for it to be my 3rd favourite. After Relayer, Tales and Going For the One it dropped down to my 4th favourite. Now, 50 odd years later it's ALL great. Rankings don't mean anything anymore.🤣

This group has been my favorite band since 1976. I saw them live twice. No one does Prog Rock better.
